As most people know, if they raise their deductible, they can lower their monthly car insurance premiums. But a question that is often not asked is, Is it worth it to raise my deductible? Let take car insurance for a moment. If I raise my insurance deductible from $250 to $1000, is it worth it? If I am only saving $50 a month, it may or may not be. From a mathematical perspective, the only way it would be worth switching in this case is if you could avoid an accident for 18 months.
On the other hand, if you have an accident when the policy is only 9 months old, then you actually lose money. Keep in mind, since you don’t know when you will be involved in an accident, it may be better to just keep the lower deductible.

How your Credit Score Affect your Insurance Rates
If your car insurance policy is coming up for renewal, you may want to check your credit report. Why, you may ask? More and more automobile insurance companies are checking credit reports today to provide a risk assessment on potential clients. The car insurance companies are beginning to believe more and more that a person’s credit score is a fairly accurate predictor of risk taking behavior. The theory is that a person who has a low credit score will also have a greater propensity to engage in risky driving behaviors. On the other hand, a person with a higher credit score has more of a tendency to be conscientious of others and will therefore have less risky driving behaviors.

Student Car Insurance Discounts
If you are a young driver, you are looking for any way possible to reduce your monthly car insurance premiums. Fortunately for you, most car insurance companies offer car insurance discounts for a range of academic reasons.
As an example, if you can maintain your grade point average above a certain threshold, your insurance company is very likely to offer you a discount. This is because insurance companies feel that there is a correlation between good school grades and risk taking behavior. The insurance companies have found that students who consistently get good grades often exhibit risk taking behaviors less than those students with lower grades.

An Easy Way to Save on Car Insurance Premiums

Most people know that if they buy a high performance sport cars, their monthly insurance premiums are going to jump through the roof. What many people don’t realize is the little Honda Accord that they just bought will also raise their premiums. Since this car is usually one of the most stolen vehicles, insurance companies will often offer insurance policies with higher premiums to offset the probability that your vehicle will be stolen.
